Deep Blue, is a handmade organic home textile that embeds both time and depth in its design. Each element specifically picked, along with the techniques used, displays the depth of time along with the craftsmen’s skills while it communicates a restful deep blue architectural space.
Designed by Richard Hassell in special collaboration with The Masters Series and Watanabe's, Japan. Each piece is unique and can be purchased with an additional Angsana display rod made by local craftsmen, Roger&Sons.
About the Angsana used by Roger&Sons
The Angsana used to craft each display rod is locally-sourced and produced.
Salvaged from the streets of Singapore, these Angsana logs are collected when cut down for city developments or removed due to safety hazards. Most of the time, landscaping companies that are tasked to cut down these trees do not identify the logs properly as they are usually treated as waste or sold to sawmills.
It then becomes a challenging task to identify where these trees come from within the country; a process that Roger&Sons think is important to improve on so we will be able to preserve the history of these trees.
For this piece, Roger&Sons has specially chosen Angsana wood due to its beautiful golden-yellow, reddish-brown tones, and wavy, well-defined grains which complement the richness of the Deep Blue textile. Angsana is also a tree native to Southeast Asia made popular in Singapore as a shade tree and gives off a nice lingering fragrance akin to cedar.
