Karakami kits are used for hand printing the traditional design of KyoKarakami onto a message card. The tools in this kit are made as realistic as possible as the brand believes that "hon ma mon"(authenticity) is of great importance. The carved wood is made from the same magnolia tree used in the actual traditional process and each design of Karakami Gift is carved as miniature models of the original printing wood designs.

Karakami Kit - Hououchou Karakusa 鳳凰蝶唐草 (Phoenix, Butterfly and Arabesque)
This pattern featuring flowers, birds, and arabesque patterns typically represent "Yusoku-monyou" (Yusoku patterns) used in the ancient court and military practices. The male phoenix is called “Hou” and the female is called “Ou”, which were thought to be the kings of birds. They are imaginary birds of luck and were believed to appear when a man of noble character ascend the imperial throne. The pronunciation of 'butterfly' is the same as the word that means 'eighty years old' in China, which made the butterfly a symbol of happiness and pattern and long life.
